This is not your typical Hawaiian resort course. It was built on Waimea upcountry pasture lands and is wide open, yet there are many Ironwood trees that can influence your shots. The front nine is not as hilly as the back nine. All the fairways are defined by a standard cut of rough, and the large greens are slightly sloped and fast. There are twenty-eight sand bunkers on the course, and water hazards affect five holes. The weather conditions are generally windy and very chilly and it can be foggy and rainy, so bring a sweater.
