Mahukona Beach Park

This quiet beach park on the Kohala Coast was once a port and railway head for the sugar plantations. It is not a good swimming area but has great snorkeling and shore diving when the surf is not high. There are restrooms and showers but the water is not safe for drinking. The shore is lava and the only water access is from the pier.

As you drive in you will come to a T in the road, to the left are the park facilities, to the right is the old pier, and directly in front of you is the 1930 Hawai'i Railway Company building.

Mahukona is several miles before Hawi Town on the left on Highway 270 and between 8 and 9 miles from the junction of Highways 19 and 270. Left turn onto Highway 270 at the junction.
