Keokea Beach Park

This park makes a pleasant rest spot or picnic stop when you are exploring North Kohala. The facilities are good, restrooms, sinks with running water and fire pits are provided. Most water activities are discouraged as there is year around high surf but a lava rock breakwater forms a nice protected cove for kids to splash around in.

This park is 22.9 miles north on Highway 270 measured from the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway 270. You will go through Kawaihae, Hawi Town and Kapa'au Town before getting to the Keokea turn off.

A few miles beyond Keokea is the end of the road and Pololu Valley. This magnificent valley and others were formed by the prevailing rain and wind on the Northeastern portion of the Island.

Experienced hikers might wish to hike down to the black sand beach. Beware, though, this is wet country and the mud may get knee deep.
