This picture was taken over thirty years ago with an X-Ray sensitive sensor, no optics, just an X-Ray shadow of the object. There was a lot of interest in the "New Technology" at the time.

These objects are a #8 screw and a (do they still make these things?) point contact diode!

This was taken a long time ago but as I recall the X-Ray head was a berillium window 150KV fractional mm spot. The imaging system was around 1000 scan lines. Either 945 or 1029 as those were two of the scan rates we used at the time. The sensor also had a berillium window, no visible light pictures with this sensor.

The white spots are sensor target blemishes and the granularity is in great part the image compression used to get this to you in a reasonable length of time. One could certainly see a solder ball or other defect in the diode especially if the part were to be moved about, tilted and rotated.
